This company seeks a motivated Automation/Mechatronics Lead Engineer for the development and implementation of future automation/advanced manufacturing solutions.

The Automation/Mechatronics Lead Engineer will report to the Chief Operating Officer.

From an operational and delivery perspective, the Automation/Mechatronics Lead Engineer will:
  • Work individually and collaboratively in the design of automated manufacturing processes for scale-up to volume manufacture.
  • Development of novel and innovative approaches in the use of technology - electronics, mechanical, and software for new manufacturing systems.
  • Relationship development with external partners in academia and industry.
  • The job will include utilising engineering disciplines such as software, electronics, mechanics, optics, and process engineering. 
  • These disciplines would be applied in order to develop proof-of-concept machinery and larger-scale integrated manufacturing lines. 
  • Robotics design, sourcing, manufacture, and implementation into existing manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Robotics, form factor machines, Industrial Vision Systems, HMI platforms, and Factory Automation utilising industry 4.0 and MES platforms.
To be successful in this role you will have experience as an Automation/Mechatronics Lead Engineer role within a similar company. You will have experience across the following:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Industry based manufacturing or product development experience preferably involving complex assemblies and/or plastics transformation
  • Experience in HMI/GUI development, industrial automation software, process visualisation, and automation.
  • Systems Engineering experience - combining components together into a working package.
  • Mechatronics experience with a broad skill set that includes proficiency in mechanical, hardware, and software.
  • Versatile, confident, and self-directed.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritising multiple projects.
  • Manage priorities and tight timeframes - self-motivation in achieving goals and a positive mindset towards this.
  • Experience in the design and development of manufacturing processes in such disciplines as robotics, automation, motion control, vision systems, image processing, and data acquisition and analysis.
  • Experience interfacing off-the-shelf machine components in hardware and software and writing higher-level software to coordinate control.
  • Experience developing test and control applications using LabVIEW, Python , RoR, MATLAB and any other forms of scripting programming.
  • Experience in HMI/GUI development, industrial automation software, process visualisation, and automation.
