The Energy Queensland Group is 100% owned by Queenslanders. As a Government Owned Corporation, they deliver electricity across Queensland through their ‘poles and wires’ businesses Energex and Ergon Energy Network. Their retailer, Ergon Energy Retail sells this electricity to customers throughout regional Queensland. These essential service activities are also supported by a range of innovative products and services delivered through their Yurika and other market brands.
OnTalent is delighted to partner with Energy Queensland Limited (EQL) to recruit this newly created general management position in the Finance team. 
The General Manager Risk and Internal Audit is responsible for the development, management and administration of Internal audit, control, risk, compliance, insurance and integrity functions within EQL.

The role is a key part of the independent Governance and Company Secretary team, is independent and reports through the Finance Division via the Company Secretary. You will provide expert, strategic advice to the EQL Board, its committees, the CEO, Executive and Company Secretary on matters relating to risk, compliance, insurance, integrity, internal controls and audit as required.

You will lead and encourage an open and transparent reporting and compliance culture and engage with all levels of business to ensure that EQL has in place appropriate second and third lines of assurance.

To be considered you will have a minimum of 10 years in a senior leadership role within a large, multi-disciplinary organisation, operating in a complex and challenging legal and regulatory environment.

Essential is extensive experience in developing and managing risk, compliance, internal audit and control and integrity frameworks and overseeing the implementation of electronic system and capability, including business implementation.

You will possess a collaborative leadership style and a proven track record of having built effective relationships with board members, senior management, external providers such as insurance brokers, underwriters and reinsurers, risk engineers and internal stakeholders.  A strong technical knowledge of internal controls, business processes, Committee of Sponsoring Organisations (COSO), Australian Accounting Standards and IIA (Institute of Internal Audit) standards is necessary.

Formal education requirements are degree qualification in law, business or accounting and post graduate qualifications in law, risk, compliance, internal audit or corporate governance.
