Magnetica is a medical device engineering and technology company specialising in the development and supply of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems, sub-systems and technologies. Headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, we have offices in Abingdon, near Oxford, UK (Scientific Magnetics Ltd) and Houston, USA (Tecmag, Inc.).
Following the recent merger of these companies, we are now focused upon commercialising our dedicated compact MRI systems to bring high-quality imaging closer to the patient point-of-care. We are looking for a motivated and detail orientated person to join our team on a permanent basis, based in the Brisbane office.
As part of the Production team, the Production Supervisor/Engineer will be responsible for all product manufacturing and NPI Support activities undertaken at the Brisbane office. You will ensure continuous reliable manufacture of complex, low volume, high value with a varied BOM mix.
From an operational and delivery perspective, the Production Supervisor/Engineer will:

  • Supervise one or more of the production lines (end-to-end) in the pursuit of achieving the managerial objectives.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and direct activities of the production assemblers, to ensure products are manufactured on-schedule, in the right sequence, to the required quality standard.
  • Drive the production team to achieve the established targets for Safety, People, Quality (DIFOT, OEE, RFT etc.)
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives to reduce production variances.
  • Complete issue and/or incident forms timely, participate in investigations and an integral part of the solution for improved quality and/or safety.
  • Responsible for all aspects from goods transformation – transform incoming component, piece parts, subassemblies into finished manufactured products ready for dispatch.
  • Bill of Material (BOM) management.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) management in conjunction with our engineering teams.
  • Coordinate the non-conformance report (NCR) generation and team feedback.
  • Managing and supporting the NPI Process.
  • Liaison with Engineering and R&D and offering advice and consultation around DFM and DFA requirements.
  • You will be responsible for bridging the gap between production and engineering to ensure all projects meet the required specifications and timelines.
  • Ensuring successful productionisation of product – ease of service, testability and manufacture.

To be successful in this role you will have experience in a Production Supervisor/Engineer role within a similar organisation. You will have the following:


  • Diploma in Engineering, or other related discipline with a Manufacturing or Process Engineering emphasis
  • Experience of low volume high value product manufacture
  • Experience of the NPI process and transition of product from Engineering/NPD to manufacture.
  • Experience advising on DFM and DFA issues.
  • Commercial acumen, resilience and a flexible approach to dealing with changing priorities and demands.
  • Knowledge in ISO9001 and other associated manufacturing standards.
  • Experience in an electro-mechanical, product manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of the NCR and RCA process and analysis to initiate and drive continuous improvement opportunities within manufacturing.
  • Experience in the productionisation of product, ensuring ease of service, and maintenance as well as production build and test.
  • Experience of electro-mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, cables, injection moulded parts, complex assemblies PCBA’s etc.
  • Process and people focused.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and completes tasks (a finisher).
  • Self-driven with good time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with technical and non-technical staff.
  • A team player that can also ensure individual workload is successfully delivered.
  • Proven problem-solving ability and enjoys learning and applying new skills.
  • Strong autonomous background and ability to self-manage time and tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints.
