Senior Manager Environment and Sustainability
Senior sustainability and environment leadership role driving practical outcomes across port operations, projects and infrastructure.
- North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation
- Mackay, or Brisbane with semi-regular travel
- Lead environmental approvals, sustainability and stakeholder engagement.
This is a senior management role with a broad remit across NQBP's ports. It will suit an experienced environment and sustainability leader who can operate with technical credibility, commercial awareness and mature judgement across a complex port, infrastructure or resources setting.
NQBP is seeking a leader who can help the business achieve responsible, practical and timely outcomes. You will work closely with infrastructure, planning, development, operations and project teams to provide the evidence, technical input, data and advice needed to support sound decision making, regulatory engagement and project delivery.
Key areas of focus
Reporting to the Executive Leadership, you will:
- lead NQBP's environment and sustainability function across its port operations;
- develop and strengthen environmental management programs, monitoring and performance frameworks;
- support project and infrastructure teams with practical & technical advice that helps progress work responsibly;
- provide subject matter expertise on environmental approvals strategies, submissions and regulator engagement;
- lead sustainability planning and help embed sustainability into strategy, decision making and delivery;
- support cultural heritage management obligations and constructive engagement;
- represent NQBP with government, industry bodies, regulators, customers, tenants and other external stakeholders;
- lead, coach and develop a specialist team of direct reports.
You will bring senior-level experience in environment and/or sustainability management within a capital-intensive operating environment.
You are likely to have:
- credibility across environment & sustainability with tertiary qualifications in environmental science, environmental management, sustainability or a related discipline;
- experience contributing to environmental approvals, major projects, infrastructure development or complex operational change;
- the ability to work constructively, rather than treating regulation as a barrier to progress;
- confidence translating complex environmental and sustainability matters for executives, operational leaders and external stakeholders;
- experience leading or influencing multidisciplinary teams;
- sound judgement in balancing environmental obligations, operational realities and project outcomes;
- maturity in engaging with stakeholders on cultural heritage and land-use matters;
- a proactive, enabling style, with the ability to improve systems, processes and business capability.
Location
The preferred location is Mackay, however Brisbane-based candidates will also be considered. Regular travel will be required to maintain strong visibility with port operations, project teams, stakeholders and the broader function.
Why consider this role?
This is an opportunity to move into a broader, more influential role where environment and sustainability are not treated as after-the-fact controls. The successful candidate will help shape practical outcomes across a complex port business, working at the intersection of environment, sustainability, cultural heritage, infrastructure and operations.
