Regional Manager – Northern Region

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) is committed to community safety and crime prevention through the supervision and rehabilitation of offenders; providing a modern, sustainable and evidence informed system targeted at reducing reoffending.

We are seeking a dynamic Regional Manager for Northern Region Community Corrections. This is a senior leadership role pivotal in contributing to the Government’s objectives for the community and promoting the effective delivery of Community Corrections in Queensland.

About the Role

Geographically, Northern Region is the largest Community Corrections region within Queensland. It includes District Offices in Townville, Mackay and Mt Isa as well as Reporting Centres across multiple locations, including in First Nations communities.

As the Regional Manager – Northern Region you will provide strategic leadership and direction for the Region, ensuring the effective delivery of Community Corrections services.

You will work closely with the Assistant Commissioner to ensure the agency’s strategic goals are achieved, managing operational risk, while fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Your innovative and communicative leadership style will extend to overseeing diverse teams; engaging in activities that attract and retain a workforce that is resilient, high performing and diverse.  You will also manage resources and ensure the integration of effective practices for offender management.

In this role you will develop and maintain strong relationships with executive leaders, partner agencies, criminal justice groups and a variety of community stakeholders, addressing sensitive and contentious issues to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to support safer communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, promotion and implementation of the agency’s strategic goals and direction.
  • Contemporary knowledge of human resource management principles as they apply to the management of a large, diverse and geographically spread team.
  • Provide high level advice to the Assistant Commissioner, Community Corrections on operational issues and ensure that the appropriate remedial initiatives are developed, implemented and evaluated where necessary.
  • Develop and implement Human Resource Management plans and systems for the region.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with community groups, stakeholders, and partner agencies.
  • Manage an approved recurrent and capital budget for the region in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, rules, procedures and delegations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a proven history as a senior leader, particularly in a criminal justice or human services field, with the ability to drive results, manage risk, and achieve strategic outcomes. You will bring strong workforce management skills, and a commitment to community and stakeholder engagement.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Demonstrated success as a senior leader with the ability to set and achieve goals and drive performance improvement.
  • Demonstrated communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills for liaising with staff at all levels to negotiate service delivery, priorities, resources and other relevant issues.
  • Interpersonal skills for partnering with internal and external stakeholders, who often have competing interests, on sensitive and complex issues.
  • Proven expertise in risk management, strategic planning, and resource management.

 

NOTE: The role requires work to be undertaken outside of normal business hours in order to respond to emergent issues, manage risk and support community safety.
