Backing the NFP Sector Beyond the Bottom Line

OnTalent

At OnTalent, we believe that recruitment is about more than filling roles, it’s about connecting people to purpose. Anyone that has worked in the for-purpose sector as long as some of our team members have, will know that there is no mission without money, and that mission cannot be realised without the right people, in the right place, at the right time.

For more than a decade we have quietly gone about partnering with for-purpose organisations to build leadership capability, strengthen culture, and ensure the right people are in the right roles to help them realise their vision for their communities.

We often say our methodology is unapologetically thorough and that’s because to connect people with purpose it’s more than a placement to us.

Through our standard low bono offering and pro-bono initiatives we continue to actively back the sector with time, expertise, and care, especially for organisations that are doing critical work but may not have access to the same resources as larger organisations. Our work supporting the Domestic and Family Violence sector in talent pooling, and regional deployment of this talent in this challenging space, is one project we are very proud of.

Why Purpose Led Recruitment Matters

Whether it’s supporting vulnerable communities, advocating for change, or driving sustainable development, roles in this sector require more than technical skills – they demand commitment from the head and the heart.

When we work with you, we’re not just looking for resumes, we’re looking for resonance. Candidates who are driven by purpose are more engaged, resilient, and likely to stay.

OnTalent has been partnering with this sector for more than a decade. What makes us unique is the depth of our commitment and networks in this sector. In many instances, we’ve sat in your shoes making this decision before.

Our Chief Executive, Natasha Olsson-Seeto, currently serves as the Deputy Chair of Foodbank Queensland, is on the Board of Recruitment Consulting & Staffing Association (RCSA), serves on the Queensland Rugby Union Board, and has placed Board Members, CEO’s and Executives in the NFP sector for more than a decade.

Chris Dougherty, our Head of Not-for-Profit and Government has more than 20 years’ experience in the for-purpose sector as a HR Executive, Operations Executive and CEO. He also brings substantial Non-Executive Director (NED) experience including currently serving on the TRUE Relationships and Reproductive Health, Foodbank Queensland and Richmond Fellowship Queensland Boards. In his 9 months with OnTalent he has already placed more than 10 CEO’s, Executive and NED’s in the sector.

These unique perspectives help us share a common language, we can sit in your discomfort with you and independently help you navigate your way through to making good decisions that are informed by our decades of experience.

We truly walk alongside you to get the right outcome.

Low bono Support That Builds Capacity

We’ve worked alongside numerous small to mid sized NFPs and social enterprises, providing executive search and recruitment support on a low bono and occasional pro bono basis.

Why? Because you can’t change the world without the right people.

This includes:

  • Executive and board recruitment for organisations with limited funding
  • Leadership advisory for grassroots groups during periods of transition
  • Talent strategy development for purpose led start ups
  • Mentoring and coaching for NFP leaders navigating change

Did you know our bespoke Executive Onboarding program, designed to supercharge the onboarding and organisational alignment, is included as pro-bono value ad in our full service offering for all NFP clients?

It’s part of how we live our values, not just talk about them.

The Power of Aligned Values

When people find roles that align with their values, it transforms their sense of purpose and productivity. We’ve seen the ripple effect when a values led CEO joins a community organisation, or when a board brings on a director with lived experience and a shared mission.

We look beyond titles and sectors, and partner with our clients to do the same. Some of our most successful NFP placements have come from corporate leaders seeking more meaningful work. What matters is motivation, adaptability and cultural fit.

Recruitment as a Force for Good

Our role is to act as a bridge between passionate people and the organisations that need them. We do this with care, accountability, and a clear understanding that every hire, pro bono or otherwise, matters deeply to the communities served.

With some of our CEO and Executive positions in the for-purpose sector attracting hundreds of passionate candidates, we are continually developing and nurturing candidates to connect with their purpose. If you are looking for someone for this sector, we have deep networks that are personal, and ready to serve you.

Recruitment in the NFP space is different. It’s personal. It’s impactful. It requires more than process – it requires purpose.

Our team lives and breathes purpose.

If you’re a values driven leader seeking your next challenge, or an organisation looking for talent that truly fits, we’d love to be part of your journey.

Let’s connect people with purpose and create real change together. Call Natasha or Chris on 07 3305 5839 to discuss your specific requirements.
