OnTalent is pleased to be partnering with North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) to appoint a Manager, Environment. For NQBP, getting the balance right is core to how they operate. Taking environmental and social responsibilities seriously, while delivering high standards of environmental performance across their ports, is essential to doing business in this part of the world.

The opportunity
This is a leadership role for an experienced environmental professional who can combine technical credibility, sound judgement and stakeholder influence in a complex operating environment.

As Manager, Environment, through your team, you will lead environmental management activities across NQBP’s ports, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and approvals/permits while providing high-level support across the business. You will also contribute to environmental performance across both port operations and development activity and provide support to the Executive Leadership Team and Board on environmental matters.

You will lead an established environment function spanning environmental monitoring, approvals, policy and environmental advisory work, and work closely with internal teams, contractors, regulators, government and industry stakeholders. The role also carries an external leadership dimension through engagement with the ports sector, including QPA and Ports Australia.

Key focus areas
  • Leading NQBP’s environmental management program across its ports
  • Overseeing environmental approvals, permits and major impact studies for capital and maintenance projects
  • Maintaining an effective ISO14001-aligned Environmental Management System and supporting strong compliance and reporting disciplines
  • Leading and developing the broader environment function with your team across monitoring, approvals, policy and advisory activity
  • Working across the business and with external stakeholders to support practical, sustainable port outcomes
About you
You will bring both team and environmental leadership experience in a setting where compliance, approvals, stakeholder management and operational judgement matter. You may already be working in ports, or in another environment where projects, operations and external scrutiny intersect closely. You will be someone who can build trust, work across functions, and bring a practical approach to achieving sound environmental outcomes.

Along with relevant qualifications, you are known for engaging communication skills across a wide range of stakeholders and skills and the judgement to translate complex issues into clear, practical advice.
