Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has appointed a new Chair and Directors to the Board of Empire Theatres Pty Ltd following a Special Meeting held on Tuesday 14 April, marking an important step in setting a strong future direction for one of Australia’s most iconic cultural institutions.
Council welcomes newly appointed Chair, Mr David Taplin and four additional Directors, Ms Jade Gardiner, Mr David Chick, Ms Fiona Gaske and Mr Brett Bramwell to the Empire Theatres Board. Together, they bring a broad range of skills, experience and perspectives to lead this much-loved cultural institution into its next phase.
Mayor Geoff McDonald said the appointments reflect Council’s commitment to ensuring Empire Theatres has leadership at the highest level of the organisation to ensure strong governance oversight and focussed operational and commercial success.
“These appointments are about placing the best possible people around the table to help lead the Empire forward with a clear vision and renewed direction,” Mayor McDonald said.
“The Empire Theatre is a treasured cultural asset for the Toowoomba Region, and these Directors bring strong capability and strategic leadership to support its long-term sustainability and continued contribution to our community.”
TRC Chief Executive Officer Sal Petroccitto OAM said the appointments followed a comprehensive, independent and merit-based recruitment process led by executive search firm OnTalent.
“Council sought Directors who will strengthen governance and help ensure the Empire continues to thrive culturally and sustainably,” Mr Petroccitto said. Mr Petroccitto also acknowledged the outgoing Directors, whose terms conclude on 17 April, for their service and commitment to Empire Theatres.
Empire Theatres welcomes visitors from across Queensland and beyond, enriching cultural life, supporting local artists and contributing to the social economic vitality of the Toowoomba Region.
